Subnets
Overview
- A key concept in Amazon Web Services (AWS) networking that allows you to partition your Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) into smaller, manageable segments.
- Subnets help manage resources in a VPC more efficiently by isolating and securing different parts of your network. They also allow you to apply different routing and security policies to different parts of your network.
- Can be Private or Public
- Attached in an Availability Zone
Public Subnets
- Subnets that are configured to allow direct access to the internet. They typically contain resources that need to be accessible from the internet, such as web servers or load balancers.
- These are like the reception areas or meeting rooms where visitors (internet users) are allowed to come in and interact.
Private Subnets
- Subnets that do not have direct access to the internet. They usually contain resources like databases or application servers that are not directly accessible from the internet.
- These are like the secure offices or server rooms where only employees (internal services) have access, and visitors (external users) are not allowed.
